Project Management has developed significantly over the years with the release of several methodologies. Project Manangement's development has seen thousands of failures and inadequacies to reach where it has now. There are many governing and general bodies that are responsible for the way project management is handled in today's business world. Why have project management? Project Management is composed of planning, budgeting, people management, organisation, testing, reporting - the list is vast - but all these tasks are necessary to complete any project in a business environment: this could involve anything from a retail shop layout to a world-wide network infrastructure implementation.

PRINCE2 - PRojects IN Controlled Environments is a methodology that was developed by CCTA and is now part of the OGC, and has become the de facto method of project management within the UK. Originally developed for IT projects, Prince2 was redeveloped to help even non-IT related projects. The focus of Prince2 is the deliverable and the business case.

PMI - Project Management Institute is a world renowned organisation for project management - they are the responsible for the PMBOK. Founded in 1969, a non-profit professional organisation, responsible for delivering project management standards to everyone. These standards have been developed through the help of project managers, by providing their knowledge of experience and is completely volunteer based. The methodology provided by PMI is an accepted standard and by no means is the only method.
